The two-month cricket extravaganza that is the IPL couldn't have been a success, if not the nifty satellite and received by an
outdoor antenna (read: satellite dish or set-top box), satellite TV enables us
idiot box addicts to access a wide range of channels that are often not
serviced by cable providers.
This is because even though conceptually satellite
television is a lot like broadcast television, what makes it unique is its
range and clear signal. Since satellites orbit the plant, there are many more
customers in the line of signal. They’re all also in geosynchronous orbit,
meaning that the signal doesn’t need adjusting once the satellite has been
launched.
While it may continue to remain one of the least
understood technologies for television reception globally it hasn’t stopped
droves from signing up as new satellite customers primarily because the
broadcast is completely digital which means much better picture and sound
quality. The best thing about satellite TV in India is that we now have so many
channels that one can spend a good two hours just browsing through them all
searching for the best show to watch.
